Welcome to Goma
Pedalling hard in the Congo Basin
We are proud to have been working with the brilliant young athletes of the Goma Cycling Club since 2017. Goma is a city of over 2 million people in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), just a few miles from the border with Rwanda. This club includes males and females of all ages, and it creates National cycling champions.
The DRC is has a lot of disruption in the region. We have been following fascinating, strong young people, carving out a life for themselves with passion and resilience in the midst of uncertainty in the area. We have created a 15- minute film using some of our footage taken over the years, and written up a detailed proposal.
We are now looking for broadcasters, production companies and/or cycling brands who’d be interested in being involved in a future project, creating a film or series of films which would follow the riders up to and including the UCI World Championships 2025 in Rwanda.
Blood, sweat, tears and pride
This is the story of three young women, some of whom have been forbidden by their families from cycling, and who have been bullied and name-called for cycling as women, who have gone on to become National Champions of the Democratic Republic of Congo. They now want to compete at the World Road Championships in 2025. This is the first time that these championships have been held in Africa, and it’s the last continent to host the event. We will follow these women as they try and get onto the starting line, and follow some of their fellow athletes who want to compete in the male races too.
We will learn everything about their lives, as we get a unique look at life in the region today. This is a story of determination, of power, and of women who, are in real time, shifting social views of what women can and can’t do by their own actions.

Goma Cycling Club – A club that creates champions
As mentioned, we have been following members of the Goma Cycling club since 2017, and have lots of footage of previous races, and good working relationships with members of the team and the coaches. In this film or series of films, we would follow members of the club as they train for the biggest opportunity of their lives. We’d examine the sporting, bureaucratic and personal barriers they need to cross and see if it’s even possible.
We’d follow them as they do races and tours in Africa as the World Championships approach and follow the highs and lows of the club. We’ll follow them in their daily lives and see them work, as we gain insight into what it’s like to live in the Democratic Republic of Congo in 2024. And what it’s like to live through adversity and come out to really thrive as a National sporting hero.
We are working with filmmakers who live in the region, including Elijah Muwaze Sehene, a French-speaking, English-speaking and Swahili-speaking Congolese filmmaker who shot our interviews.
If you’d like more information or a conversation about the project or the team, please get in touch.
